A living room with a kitchenette is a popular solution regardless of the size of the apartment. When arranging such interiors, you have a lot of scope for creativity, but you also face several challenges. One of them is choosing the right lamps. After all, it has to be functional and aesthetic. How to plan lighting for a living room with a kitchenette to make this happen? In this article, we will tell you how to do it smartly and creatively!
Where to start?
From the practical side, i.e. lighting key places in the living room with a kitchenette. Determine in which zones you will prepare meals and where to eat them. Also designate a space for relaxation. Don't skimp on light sources! If there are too few of them, the room will be too dark. Your eyesight and well-being will suffer. Don't forget to maintain stylistic consistency between zones, also in the case of lighting. The frames do not have to be the same, but they should match each other. The simplest solution is different variants of lamps from the same collection. Remember that each type of lighting has its functional purpose, i.e. it meets different needs. Thanks to these tips, you will also avoid monotony in your interior design!
Lighting in the kitchen and dining room
Worktops, including the sink and hob, require adequate lighting in the kitchen. One of the most frequently used solutions for this purpose are spotlights mounted on the ceiling or LED spots or strips installed under the upper kitchen cabinets. Light sources with a cooler color will work better in this role, as they facilitate concentration. Well-matched countertop lighting will allow you to cook safely and comfortably. In the case of a 10 m2 kitchen, at least 600 lumens should be allocated to lighting this zone, i.e. approximately 14% of the value for the entire room. Complement the luminaires in the kitchen with ceiling lamps, which will discreetly brighten the entire room. Take into account that they should all be easy to clean and not limit your work space.
If the relaxation area is separated from the living area by an island or a bar, light support will also be useful there! The lamps in this part are not only a functional element of the decor. In addition to providing light during everyday activities, they are decorative and enhance the style of the entire interior. In the case of shoulders, smaller frames are a more practical solution. Kitchen islands are a perfect place for a more impressive hanging lamp, or even a composition consisting of several hanging lamps. You can mount the lighting above the island slightly lower than other fixtures without compromising comfortable movement around the room. Light sources with a neutral or slightly cool color will work best here. A great solution are lamps with several lampshades, e.g. ENKEL 3 or LIGNE by UMMO, additionally equipped with an LED strip. Another stylish proposition is LONGIS from KASPA.
Dining space lighting
The kitchen and living room are usually connected by... a table! The lighting in this part should therefore create a smooth transition between zones. The most effective solutions are hanging lamps with several light sources or several single pendants arranged symmetrically or in a cascade. The Loft Bala or Loft Sfarer collections work perfectly in this role. Choose neutral light above the dining table.
Lighting of the relaxation area
In the living area, the central elements are lounge furniture and a coffee table. Install the main lighting above them. Choose a hanging luminaires or a spider lamp that will work as a central light source even in a larger room. In the relaxation area, use warm-colored bulbs that promote relaxation. Supplementary lighting also plays an important role in the living room, i.e. wall lamps, floor lamps and table lamps. Additional light sources will help you create a cozier atmosphere and will also decorate the living room. A designer lamp on the coffee table or an impressive floor lamp next to the sofa are decor details that are a real highlight in the interior. If you also read and work here, add lighting in the places where you do it most often.
